Vinson Traffic Stop

On February 10, 2012 at approximately 2130 hours, while on routine patrol deputies were located on Toms Creek Road off of Hwy 94 E, when they stopped a green Ford Ranger for a traffic infraction. As deputies approached the vehicle, they noticed a handgun on the front passenger side seat. Deputies also observed a purple metal pipe used for smoking marijuana and a clear bag with suspected marijuana located under the driverís right leg. Deputies seized the handgun from the vehicle and asked the driver who was identified as James Walter Vinson, 47, of Jasper, Florida, to step out of the vehicle. Vinson was taken into custody and a search of the truck was conducted. Deputies recovered a prescription bottle which contained seven methadone pills from the glove box which were not prescribed to Vinson and the label had been removed from the bottle. A subsequent search of the bed of the truck revealed three yellow five gallon gasoline jugs containing moonshine. Vinson was charged with felony possession of a schedule two narcotic, felony possession of a controlled substance not in the original container, misdemeanor possession of marijuana,  felony possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime, misdemeanor  possession of drug related objects, misdemeanor possession of unstamped distilled spirits and improper left turn. Vinson was transported to the Lowndes County Jail for processing.
